CPSA is seeking a strategic, collaborative and people-focused leader to step into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the CPSA Executive, the CEO will provide operational, policy and strategic leadership across the organisation, ensuring CPSA remains a strong, independent and representative voice for older people and people on low incomes.

About CPSA

Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association of NSW Inc (CPSA) is a member-based advocacy organisation promoting the rights, dignity and wellbeing of older people

Established in 1931, CPSA delivers high-impact systemic advocacy across a broad range of policy areas and provides accessible information and referral services to older people across NSW.

CPSA's key policy and research areas include:

  • Transport accessibility and equity

  • Healthcare

  • Housing

  • Consumer rights

  • Digital exclusion

  • Income security and welfare

  • Aged care

  • Elder abuse and discrimination

CPSA has 45 local branches, providing members with social opportunities and the opportunity to shape state-wide policy. CPSA receives core funding through the NSW Department of Communities and Justice Ageing Peaks Program, as well as program funding from NSW Health for the Health Promotion Service for Older People (HPSOP).

About You

We're looking for a values-driven leader who brings:

  • Demonstrated success in organisational leadership and governance within the not-for-profit or public policy sectors

  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and advocacy, with the ability to influence policy and represent a broad, diverse constituency

  • Experience in strategic planning, operations, and funding oversight

  • Knowledge of social and economic issues affecting older people and people on low incomes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and media engagement

  • A commitment to equity, inclusion and the rights of older people

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead CPSA's systemic advocacy agenda across state and federal issues, guided by member-endorsed policy

  • Represent CPSA publicly and in high level meetings, forums and media engagements as a trusted advocate for our constituents

  • Guide change processes that enhance relevance, diversity and impact across all CPSA activities in line with member expectations and funding priorities

  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with members, funders, government agencies, media, NGOs, regulators, and other partners

  • Support the CPSA Executive and Management Committee, ensuring timely reporting, sound governance advice, and implementation of decisions

  • Maintain CPSA's position as an effective and representative voice for pensioners of all ages, older people on low incomes and superannuants

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and values-aligned workplace culture

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high quality organisational outcomes, deliver results in line with external funding and grant requirements, and report on these effectively

  • Understanding of governance processes and the ability to support and work constructively with a volunteer Board or Executive

  • Understanding of legal and fiduciary obligations for incorporated associations and employers

Strategic Leadership & Change

  • Experience managing teams and fostering a positive, values-driven culture in a collaborative environment

  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically, aligning day-to-day operations with long-term goals

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including media engagement and public speaking

  • Demonstrated success in building effective partnerships and relationships with stakeholders across government, community organisations, peak bodies, media, and constituents

  • Strong ability to represent a broad and diverse membership, ensuring a range of interests and lived experiences are reflected in public advocacy and organisational strategy

  • Proven ability to clearly articulate policy positions and represent them effectively across a variety of platforms and audiences

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and ability to use, or learn to use, content management and project management systems

Knowledge & Values

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and substantial experience in the not-for-profit, government, or community sectors

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development of considered, evidence-based policy within a complex public policy environment

  • Commitment to social justice, equity and the rights of older people

Other Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of social and economic issues affecting older people and people on low incomes

  • Experience advocating for and influencing policy outcomes that benefit marginalised or underrepresented groups

  • Experience working collaboratively with people with lived experience of systemic disadvantage, including older people who are socially isolated, culturally diverse, or digitally excluded

  • Experience with member-led organisations
