Kippax Street Surry Hills Sydney Australia Canva Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year
Job Description

Join the team driving revenue insights that power Canva's growth strategy.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming, and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have a choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA — and we're building new capabilities to match. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of how we generate and interact with business insights through data. While responsibilities may evolve, here's what you can expect to work on:

  • Building the foundational analytics layer that powers Canva's ability to use large language models (LLMs) for answering business questions through natural language interfaces, enabling non-technical users to get answers from data without needing SQL.
  • Designing and implementing robust, scalable semantic data models that translate raw data into business-friendly concepts for real-time and AI-assisted querying.
  • Partnering with data scientists, product analysts, and business stakeholders to automate performance reporting and connect hundreds of experiments with foundational goal metrics such as revenue, active users, and retention.
  • Modernising legacy dashboards by integrating AI-first approaches, from query translation to proactive insights, and helping define the next generation of LLM-native reporting at Canva.
  • Writing production-quality code in SQL and Python to optimise and orchestrate transformations, develop resilient pipelines, and shape the end-to-end data experience.
  • Contributing to a data platform that supports the entire company in making better decisions - faster, smarter, and more intuitively.

You're probably a match if

  • You have solid experience working in large-scale data environments, ideally in cloud-native stacks (AWS preferred).
  • You have strong SQL, Python, and data modelling expertise, and you're comfortable building robust semantic layers that abstract complexity for business users.
  • You've worked with modern MPP cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery, and understand performance tuning and optimisation.
  • You're familiar with the ELT approach to data transformation and can build clean, reliable, and tested pipelines using SQL, Python, and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt).
  • You're excited by the potential of AI and LLMs in analytics, and you've either worked on or are eager to work on systems that enable natural language interfaces for querying data.
  • You understand the trade-offs in building semantic models for LLM interpretation, and you care deeply about data quality, explainability, and accessibility.
  • You've helped teams transition from traditional dashboards to smarter, AI-powered analytics tools that bring the right insights to the right people at the right time.
  • You're a strong communicator who thrives in cross-functional collaboration and can translate between technical implementation and business impact.
  • You're curious, self-directed, and love staying at the forefront of analytics, AI, and how they intersect.

About the team

The mission of the 'Foundational Goal Performance' team is to improve overall commercial measurement outcomes across Canva and to make sure we have a path to continuously meet our growth targets. We run and support a range of programs that help Canva understand what's working and what's not. This challenge sits at the very core of Canva as a company and changes how we think about our product investments, how we bring everyone together to rally around growth, and how we provide the right tooling and measurement to support these conversations. With this goal in mind, the team naturally works cross-functionally across the entire organisation to influence and move Canva forward as a whole.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
  • Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
  • An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
  • Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
