At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper, world-shaper.
This is your opportunity to help shape the future of sustainability with world-changing innovations and low-carbon technologies. Become a valued part of the team that's shaping the future of aluminium, revolutionising the way the world lives, builds, moves and flies. Be part of it and shape your world.
About the Role
Alcoa's WA Mining Operations deliver approximately 35 million tonnes of bauxite per year from two separate mine sites in Western Australia. The Mines Engineering group provides technical support to these operations.
As the Electrical Project Officer, you will join our team at the Huntly and Willowdale operations. This is a key role that complements other highly technical positions by providing the sound, practical, "hands-on" supervisory experience necessary to ensure the successful planning and delivery of non-capital and capital works.
Your primary function will be to sustain the safe and continuous operation of Alcoa's mining facilities, primarily focus on scoping, quoting, planning, constructability reviewing, supervising, executing, commissioning, and closing out key capital and non-capital electrical project works as a part of the Mines Engineering team
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Determine and define scopes of electrical work. Prepare associated cost estimates and schedules to assist in the planning and delivery of small, medium, and large projects.
- Coordination and supervision of contractors undertaking primarily electrical works is essential. Ensure that contract conditions and installation standards are consistently maintained.
- Projects primarily focus on electrical upgrades and modifications to the crushing, conveying, sampling, stacking, reclaiming, train loading, and electrical power distribution systems. These systems are critical to the reliable supply of bauxite.
- Apply "hands on," practical, technical expertise in combination with problem-solving techniques. This delivers effective, low-cost solutions to issues affecting continued safe and reliable operation of the mining ore transport systems.
- Fulfill all the responsibilities of an Alcoa Responsible Person, managing the safety of contractor personnel. Act as a High Voltage switching specialist, providing back-up cover for level 3 HV switching operators at both Huntly and Willowdale.
- Coordinate the implementation of work for the mines engineering group with operations, maintenance, and other key stakeholder groups. Supervision/management of work involving both electrical and mechanical components will also be required.
What's on offer
- Attractive remuneration and variable bonus plan.
- Family friendly rosters that allow you to be home after each shift.
- Parental leave support for all caregivers.
- One additional paid Alcoa Flexi Day.
- Generous leave entitlements including a leisure a day off every 4-week period.
- Connect and be part of a community that celebrates diversity through our employee inclusion groups.
What you can bring to the role

- Previous experience with estimation and control of project costs and schedules will be held in high regard
- Ideally you should hold a HV Switching Certification and have previous experience within heavy industrial construction projects.
- You should hold or be willing to complete Schedule 26 - Statutory Supervisor accreditation. Alcoa will provide support in obtaining accreditation.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a leadership position or have worked in a similar operation or industry to Alcoa.
Additional information
