Who we are:

With over 30 suburbs spanning 158.1 km2 and home to 148,000 people, the City of Salisbury is the second most populated local government in metropolitan Adelaide and the fourth largest local government, making it one of the most significant Council areas in South Australia.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping Salisbury as a leading Intercultural City. You will build and strengthen meaningful engagement with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, while also supporting broader diversity and inclusion priorities.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead Council projects that deliver positive diversity and inclusion outcomes.
  • Enhance collaboration between Council, diverse communities, and local residents.
  • Contribute to the implementation, management and review of diversity, intercultural, age-friendly, and access and inclusion strategies.
  • Provide high-level advice, research and reporting to inform Council's decision-making.
  • Identify emerging issues and opportunities and seek funding to support strategic action plans.

Key Responsibility

  • Drive the implementation of the Intercultural Strategic Plan, collaborating with other divisions.
  • Lead intercultural projects that create meaningful opportunities for connection,
  • Work as part of the Diversity and Inclusion team to support projects and build community capacity.
  • Support advisory groups such as the Salisbury Intercultural Community Alliance and Salisbury Seniors Alliance to strengthen community engagement.
  • Prepare budgets, track expenditure, and ensure effective delivery of intercultural, age-friendly, and access and inclusion programs.
  • Undertake strategic research and evaluation to monitor the impact of initiatives on community health, wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Lead consultations and develop action plans that respond to community needs.
  • Engage stakeholders and advocate for priority issues.
  • Manage consultants and ensure the timely delivery of projects.
  • Prepare reports and provide expert advice to Council and senior management.

Skill & Competencies:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social science, community development, or a related discipline with relevant experience.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret demographic and statistical data.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering complex projects and programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong collaborative approach with the ability to also work independently.
  • Sound understanding of community health, wellbeing and inclusion issues, and the roles of government and the non-government sector.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, policy development, and program delivery.
  • Experience in securing and managing funding programs.
  • Previous experience in Local or State Government in intercultural, age-friendly, or access and inclusion program delivery.
  • Strong problem-solving, judgement and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to work under limited direction and manage competing priorities.
