We have an exciting casual position available to join our Student Support Services team at TAFE Queensland's SkillsTech.

Join our team as a Disability Coach where you will be responsible for the practical support of students with a disability. You will be contributing to building learner capability and confidence, ensuring high-quality learning outcomes and an inclusive training environment.

The position will require you to work from a number of TAFE Queensland - SkillsTech campuses and reports to the Manager Student Support Services.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide support to learners with a disability through the design and conduct of individualised coaching sessions and advocacy for learners as required.

* Monitor the operation of the subject and the reaction of the learner and communicate such information to the teacher and Student Support Services Co-ordinator for the purpose of providing reasonable adjustment and customising learning support.

* Conduct coaching sessions as directed by the Student Support Services Co-ordinator in consultation with the teacher.

* Prepare and review instructional plans to meet the changing needs of learners and rectify issues as they arise.

* Co-ordinate and maintain instructional records including activities undertaken to support the learner, manage resources and report all significant problems to the Student Support Services Co-ordinator.

* Meet with the teacher and Student Support Services Co-ordinator on a regular basis to discuss issues such as the impact of the learner's disability on instructional exercises and subject content.

How you will be assessed

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proven ability in the following areas:

  1. Demonstrated self-management, participative decision-making, team participation and the ability to accept, promote and manage change.

  2. Demonstrated instructional effectiveness including knowledge of contemporary disability practice, quality student interaction and effective preparation.

  3. Demonstrated promotion of inclusive delivery practice by contributing to course planning and development through participation and contribution within the delivery team.

  4. Demonstrated commitment to self-development with the focus on instructional skills, technology, skills update and contemporary disability practices.

  5. Application of knowledge of, and commitment to, the principles and objectives that underpin anti-discrimination legislation with particular reference to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Disability Standards for Education 2005, Disability Services Act 2006 and departmental policies and guidelines that are relevant to disability services.
