Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Adventure Ability Services PTY LTD Full time

About Us

Adventure Ability Services is a leading NDIS-registered provider specialising in outdoor, activity-based programs for people with disabilities across Queensland.

Our mission is to create opportunities for individuals to participate in sport, recreation, and adventure-based activities that build confidence, independence, and community connection.

We collaborate closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, doctors, and other allied-health professionals to design programs that improve functional outcomes, enhance physical and mental wellbeing, and empower participants to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

Our values focus on inclusion, empowerment, and safety — and our multidisciplinary team works together to ensure every participant receives high-quality, person-centred support across the Moreton Bay and Brisbane regions.

Role Overview

The Active Living & Community Engagement Officer plays a key role in program development, coaching, and participant support. This position combines hands-on disability support, fitness and recreation leadership, and mentoring of other team members.

You'll plan, coordinate, and deliver outdoor, fitness, and community programs that promote independence, health, and participation — working closely with allied-health professionals and support teams to achieve each participant's NDIS goals.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking an energetic and compassionate professional who is passionate about helping people with disabilities and mental-health challenges reach their full potential. The ideal candidate has:

  • 1–2 years' experience in disability services, community engagement, or recreation programming.
  • Experience working alongside allied-health professionals.
  • Knowledge of the NDIS and person-centred support frameworks.
  • A background in fitness, sport, or personal training.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

Program Design & Delivery

  • Develop and facilitate physical-activity, sport, and recreation programs tailored to participant goals.
  • Collaborate with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and doctors to support clinical recommendations.
  • Plan group sessions, outdoor programs, and social events that build confidence and community inclusion.

Participant Support & Daily Living

  • Provide day-to-day assistance to participants in line with their NDIS plans (e.g. transport, personal care, meal preparation, and community access).
  • Encourage independence, emotional wellbeing, and skill development.
  • Support participants in therapeutic exercises and goal-driven routines.

Coaching & Mentoring

  • Train and mentor other support workers in active-support techniques, safety, and participant engagement.
  • Model best practices in behaviour management, communication, and fitness delivery.

Compliance & Administration

  • Maintain accurate participant documentation, progress notes, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, WHS obligations, and organisational policies.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 1–2 years' experience in disability support, recreation, or community-based program delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Background in sport coaching or personal training (desirable).
  • Understanding of allied-health collaboration and NDIS compliance.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent planning and documentation skills.

Qualifications & Mandatory Requirements

  • Certificate IV or higher in Disability, Community Services, Sport & Recreation, or related field.
  • Higher qualification such as a Diploma in Sport, Aquatics & Recreation Management is highly regarded.
  • Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • Yellow Card / NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • National Police Check
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module (mandatory)
  • NDIS Supporting Effective Communication Module (mandatory)
  • NDIS New Worker Induction Module (mandatory)
  • NDIS Basics of Infection Prevention and Control Module (mandatory)
  • National Hand Hygiene Initiative Course (mandatory)
