About the role:
This position is based within the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) team in the Health Equity and System Enablers branch. The team plays an important part in supporting the operations of VAD in Victoria, and in ensuring the safe and effective access to the service.
The Project Officer has a valuable role in supporting continuous improvement for VAD, and communicating with stakeholders, medical practitioners and nominated contact persons to aid the smooth and timely process of applying to access VAD. With strong attention to detail, the Project Officer contributes to the safe operation of VAD by ensuring applications are compliant. Engaging with empathy and compassion, the role supports the processing of applications and case administration in a dedicated IT portal, and supports process improvement projects.
Proactively contributing to a culture of continuous improvement, the role also assists the department to support the compliance and oversight functions of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board by collecting feedback, preparing reports, briefs and correspondence. Maintaining relationships with key stakeholder groups and providing accurate guidance and information is key as well as ensuring records are kept in accordance with the department's records, information security and privacy policies and legislative requirements.

About you:
The Department of Health is seeking a Project Officer to support initiatives in Health Equity & System Enablers. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving health equity and supporting system improvements within the department. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise briefs, reports, emails, and other written correspondence that achieve their intended purpose.
To succeed in this position, you must be adept at influencing and negotiating effectively. This involves tailoring your communication to various audiences, addressing objections strategically, and aligning your ideas with the needs and goals of others. Additionally, you will need to apply your understanding of organisational dynamics, making use of both formal and informal networks to influence decision-making and prioritise key objectives. An appreciation of legal obligations and organisational responsibilities is essential.
Strong self-management skills are also crucial. You will need to plan and prioritise tasks effectively, managing your workload to support team objectives and ensure outcomes are met. Your ability to anticipate challenges and respond proactively will be key in navigating complex situations, while maintaining a strong alignment with public sector values.

Mandatory
- Previous experience working with legislation is desirable as is experience working in the healthcare sector.
- Experience with end-of-life care, death and grief would be advantageous. Ability to work with this subject matter on a daily basis is required.
- Qualifications in the fields of health administration, medicine, nursing, midwifery, paramedic, pharmacy, allied health or public administration beneficial but not essential.
