About us:
At the Victorian Department of Health we want a future where Victorians are the healthiest people in the world. A Victoria where our children and people thrive, our workplaces are productive and safe, and our communities are more connected.
We see it as our job to support Victorians to stay healthy and safe. And to deliver a world-class healthcare system that ensures every single Victorian can access safe, quality care that leads to better health outcomes for all.
About you:
The Department of Health is seeking a motivated and capable Project Officer to support key initiatives that improve health outcomes for Victorian communities. This role requires strong organisational abilities, a collaborative approach and the confidence to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
The successful candidate will demonstrate well-developed written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and accurate briefs, reports, emails and correspondence. You will be able to tailor your writing to suit purpose and audience, ensuring information is well-structured and easy to understand. Strong verbal communication is equally important. You will be able to convey ideas in a confident and engaging manner, adapt your message to different groups, and actively listen to understand perspectives and confirm shared understanding.
The role requires advanced computer proficiency, including experience using word processing, spreadsheets and other common software applications. You will also be comfortable assisting colleagues in resolving basic technical issues related to these programs.
You will support the delivery of project activities by contributing to the development of detailed project plans with clear objectives and defined actions. The position involves maintaining regular communication with team members, anticipating potential issues, and helping ensure project milestones are met. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset is essential.
Strong self-management skills are critical to success in this role. You will be expected to plan and prioritise your workload, manage competing deadlines and approach tasks thoughtfully rather than reactively. An ability to recognise your strengths, manage areas for development and prepare for challenging situations will support your effectiveness in a fast-paced environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is organised, communicative and eager to contribute to meaningful work within the public health sector. If you are looking to develop your skills and make a positive impact, we encourage you to apply.
Mandatory
- A relevant tertiary qualification in a business administration, health discipline or relevant public policy area is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience and/or understanding of working with Aboriginal organisations and Aboriginal community is highly desirable.
On a personal level the candidate will be resilient, detail-focused and flexible, remaining calm under pressure, adapting to changing priorities, and identifying key information with accuracy. They will also build strong relationships, work collaboratively to support team goals, and foster trust, harmony and effective communication across all levels.
What we offer:
- The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
- A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service & Sector.
- A strong commitment to work-life balance, including a diverse array of flexible working arrangements.
