About the Department

The Payments Policy Department advises the RBA's Payments System Board on issues relevant to its responsibilities to promote efficiency and competition, and control risk, in the payments system. Rapid change in the payments landscape associated with new technologies and new participants is raising novel policy and regulatory issues for consideration.

About the teams

We have manager roles available in two teams that work closely together to shape the direction of the payments landscape in a way that meets the needs of users, both now and in the future.

Payments Strategy and Modernisation team

The Payments Strategy and Modernisation team coordinates the development of the RBA's payments policy strategy and helps to drive the development and modernisation of payments infrastructure that supports economic activity. Pursuing these objectives involves producing policy focused research and engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders. The team's current priority topics include the future of account-to-account payments, the development of fast payments capabilities and enhancing cross-border payments. Digital Currencies team

The Digital Currencies team is a multi-disciplinary team leading the RBA's research on the future of money in Australia. The team helps to shape the RBA's thinking in this evolving space by tackling big-picture policy issues at the heart of the RBA's strategic priority on shaping the future of money in Australia. The team's priority research initiatives include exploring the role of digital money in wholesale tokenised asset markets, undertaking public engagement on how innovations in payments and money could meet emerging or unmet payment needs and assessing the role of private money innovations, such as stablecoins, in the monetary and payments landscape. About the roles

As a manager in one of these teams, you will be responsible for leading a small team of analysts to produce policy focused research for the RBA's senior leadership and the Payments System Board. You will coach and develop capabilities within the team and oversee key workflows. There will be significant opportunities for you to collaborate with other teams within the Department and the RBA, as well as to engage with industry stakeholders and other policy and regulatory agencies.

About you

We would love to hear from candidates who have:

• Experience in or demonstrated interest in people leadership.

• Strong critical thinking skills to guide and produce analysis and research on complex policy issues.

• An ability to write clearly and succinctly, with the intended audience in mind.

• Highly effective communication and strong stakeholder engagement skills.

• Strong work planning and organisation skills.

• An ability and willingness to champion, drive and communicate change initiatives across functions and within the team.

Postgraduate study, research experience, or prior policy/regulatory roles, along with demonstrated strategic thinking and sound judgment will be highly regarded.
