About the Role
The Senior School Finance Officer will deliver high quality analysis of financial practices in Victorian Government Schools to inform policy and process development, along with undertaking detailed assessments of individual school financial positions.
The role will be responsible for supporting the departments implementation of changes to school finance policy settings, developing clear processes and procedures. Along with reviewing and assessing documentation to ensure compliance with school finance policies. This role will require strong knowledge of systems and financial management within the school environment, as well as policies, procedures and the school governance requirements.
The role will be responsible for:
- Undertaking reviews of schools' finance applications and documentation, against department policies and procedures as they relate to school financial management.
- The provision of analysis of school to resolve complex financial request made on behalf of the department, and negotiating workable outcomes between schools and the department.
- Preparation of briefings to support decision making relating to school financial management,
- The provision of advice and guidance to schools on the interpretation of school financial information and provide support to schools relating to the outcomes of financial analysis undertaken.
- The development and improvement of financial policies and practices as they relate to schools' finances.

- The successful applicant will have a strong knowledge of systems used within the school environment, focusing on CASES21 and the Student Resource Package (SRP).
- They will need to have a customer focus to delivery high quality outcomes to the schools.
They will also be required to solve complex problems within the school environment, an eye for detail to identity gaps and be able solve complex problems.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Essential: three years' experience working in school finance management/administration and/or support finance support role.
- Desirable: Relevant tertiary qualification in business management, finance or accounting, or equivalent experience.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
Financial Services Division, designs and implements financial management principles, processes and systems to ensure that the Department and its managers in central office, regions, schools and statutory authorities have the necessary support to execute their financial management responsibilities.
About the Branch
School Finance and Resources Branch, manages the efficient and effective allocation of resources to government and non-government schools, congruent with the Government's priorities and school education reform agenda within the departments planning and budget framework.
