Our team
The Geospatial Leadership team supports Geoscience Australia to be the national leader in government geospatial matters. This includes supporting the Chief of Division in the development of geospatial strategies, driving agendas at national and international fora, and coordinating across government and industry on geospatial matters.
The team works collaboratively to support geospatial initiatives, and the establishment of standards, and provide strategic leadership in the geospatial domain. The team provides some secretariat support to a variety of geospatial committees and also supports Geoscience Australia's input into international forums, through the development of papers and collation of responses.
The role
The Geospatial Standards Coordination Officer is responsible for conducting research and data analysis to inform standards development, maintaining comprehensive records and documentation, coordinating attendance to various meetings and workshops of relevance.
In this role you will:
- Provide advice on geospatial standards to Australian government departments.
- Proactively coordinate and manage the identification of geospatial standards needs and requirements within Geoscience Australia.
- Facilitate and coordinate the alignment of geospatial standards requirements and adoption processes across relevant internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry bodies.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with subject matter experts to ensure their insights and expertise are effectively integrated into standards setting and documentation.
- Represent Geoscience Australia's interests and articulate issues related to geospatial standards to relevant national and international standards bodies, contributing to the development and refinement of these standards.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of geospatial information to provide a strong evidence base for standards development.
- Provide high-level support to the Director Geospatial Leadership and Chief of Division in fostering and promoting leadership in geospatial standards development and adoption across Australia, contributing to strategic initiatives and policy discussions.
- Design, establish, and maintain a clear and accessible system for all records and documentation related to geospatial standards for the organisation.
- Serve as the central point of contact for all enquiries regarding geospatial standards for the organisation, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination.
To be successful in the role you will:
- Possess strong analytical skills to effectively research and interpret geospatial data for standards development.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills to clearly convey complex information and liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Exhibit exceptional organisational skills to manage documentation, coordinate meetings, and prioritise tasks efficiently.
- Be proactive and solution-oriented, with a focus on identifying and implementing improvements to standards and processes.
- Be capable of working independently while also being a collaborative team player.
- Show a commitment to ensuring high-quality and effective geospatial data across the organisation.
Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of geospatial standards, including concepts of interoperability.
