Our client is an exciting Australian business in the food and drink space with a great reputation and a growing global footprint.

As Senior Accountant you will be responsible for overseeing and analyzing financial data, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards like GAAP. Key duties include performing account reconciliations, managing the month-end and year-end close processes, assisting with audits, and providing guidance to junior staff. 

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Account Reconciliation: Perform and oversee regular account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and update the general ledger, verifying and posting all transactions.
  • Auditing and Compliance: Assist with internal and external audits, prepare tax returns, and ensure all accounting practices comply with GAAP and other regulations.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecast future expenditures, and analyze financial performance against projections.
  • Process Improvement: Review and recommend improvements to accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and train junior accounting staff, plan their work, and review their entries.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze financial information to identify trends, errors, and areas for increased efficiency and cost savings.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a senior accountant or in a similar role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is typically required.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software, general ledger functions, and MS Excel (including VLOOKUP and pivot tables).
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and other accounting regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with other departments and mentoring junior staff.
