An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and passionate individual to join the Justice Branch in the Social Policy Group as a Policy Officer, Justice Branch at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The Justice Branch provides high-quality, strategic analysis and advice on justice policy issues to support the Premier and Cabinet. The Branch also contributes to the development and delivery of key policies and priority projects from a whole-of-government perspective across the justice portfolio. This includes working within the policy portfolio areas of Attorney-General, including legal policy and courts, Youth Justice, Corrections, Community Safety and Victims.

The core duties of the Policy Officer role include providing high quality policy advice and analysis to the Premier, the Secretary, DPC executives and other senior officers across a range of issues within the Branch.

The role requires a proactive self-starter with good understanding of government processes and an ability to work in a complex, sensitive and fast paced environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong policy, analytical and communication skills coupled with an ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment.

About You
As our ideal candidate, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in policy design and development and ability to draft policies and business cases using research skills and in consultation with stakeholders and to conduct critical analysis on data and evidences collected.
  • Highly developed critical thinking and problem solving skills and ability to resolve issues through deep understanding or interpretation of existing guidelines and analyse ideas available and take action in consultation with others to resolve problems.
  • Sound influencing and persuasion skills and ability to consistently adapt the content, style, message or tone of a presentation to suit the audience and plans how to tackle objections.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and ability to prepares and deliver logical sequential and succinct presentations and tailor communications according to audience and/or audience preference.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and adaptable and to respond quickly to changes and work in collaboration with teams outside of own organisation.
