We're looking for an experienced and driven Journalist to join our team in the Parliamentary Press Gallery at Parliament House, Canberra. This is a rare opportunity to cover some of the most consequential and fast-moving industries shaping Australia's future — from global technology shifts to the geopolitical forces influencing policy decisions.

Based in Canberra, this role offers the chance to work at the intersection of editorial and commercial journalism, covering major policy areas and exploring emerging industries. The role is primarily in-office at Parliament House, with flexibility built into the working arrangements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Reporting on global technology shifts and the geopolitical forces influencing policy decisions
  • Pitch and develop compelling, well-researched stories for our publication.
  • Building and maintaining a strong contact network within political and policy-making circles
  • Collaborating with an experienced and passionate newsroom team
  • Exploring opportunities in multimedia storytelling, including podcasts
  • Conducting interviews with political figures, industry leaders, and experts.
  • Covering major policy areas across multiple portfolios including; Education, skills and training; Communications (privacy, social media, e-safety); Industry policy (grants, NRF, R&D tax incentives).
  • Writing across industries including; Agritech and agriculture; Fintech, advanced manufacturing; Space and renewables; Cleantech, pharmaceuticals, biotech; and AI and quantum technologies

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated journalism or reporting experience at a similar level (essential)
  • Experience in the Parliamentary Press Gallery (advantageous but not essential)
  • Exposure to or interest in technology and innovation-led industries (advantageous but not essential)
  • A self-starting newshound with a strong interest in policy and politics
  • A strong contact book and the ability to cultivate networks
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes news environment
