Primary objective

Provide advanced psychological services and clinical leadership to support the mental health and wellbeing of Northern Territory Police

Force (NTPF) and Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) personnel, volunteers and their immediate families. This

includes delivering complex clinical assessments and interventions, supervising allied health professionals, and contributing to program

development, training, policy, and strategic initiatives across the agency.

Context statement

Wellbeing Services supports the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of all NTPF and NTFES personnel and their immediate

family members. Wellbeing Services is a multidisciplinary team incorporating peer supporters, psychologists, social workers, chaplains

and rehabilitation advisors, who together provide a holistic health service within a stepped care model.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Deliver evidence-based psychological services, including clinical assessments, structured interventions, WellChecks, and ongoing

support to NTPFES employees, volunteers, and their families.

2. Provide clinical oversight and advice on complex cases, risk, crisis, and trauma care.

3. Supervise and mentor psychologists, social workers, registrars, and students, ensuring compliance with professional standards and

development of clinical capability.

4. Conduct psychometric assessments and support recruitment and fitness-for-duty evaluations.

5. Respond to critical incidents, including on-scene support, psychological first aid and escalation of high-risk matters.

6. Develop and deliver training, health promotion, and clinical documentation including psychoeducation sessions, reports, assessments,

and professional briefings.

7. Contribute to the development of wellbeing strategies, policies, procedures and clinical governance, ensuring alignment with evidence-

based best practice and organisational objectives.

8. Participate in the on-call roster and provide psychological support across urban, regional and remote NT locations as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) and postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychology.

  1. Extensive experience in clinical assessment and evidence-based intervention for complex and high-risk psychological presentations.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision and mentoring to psychologists, social workers, registrars, and students.
  3. Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, psychological risk mitigation, and critical incident response, with experience providing

expert consultation in high-pressure environments.

5. Experience contributing to policy development and clinical governance in a complex organisational setting.

6. Demonstrated ability to deliver training, psychoeducation and mental health promotion initiatives, and to prepare high-quality clinical

documentation and reports.

7. Well-developed interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to work respectfully with First Nations

clients and engage with a diverse workforce.

8. Demonstrated workplace behaviours consistent with the values and expectations of NTPF /NTFES.

Desirable

1. Experience working in or alongside policing, emergency services, or other para-military environments.
