Primary objective
The Senior Mental Health Worker is responsible for the provision of specialist assessment and planned intervention for children and
adolescents who are experiencing mental health problems and provides educational and consultancy services to their carers and other
professionals in the context of a multidisciplinary team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. An experienced clinician competent in delivering services within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and in the context of a
multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Team.
- Manage a complex and mixed case load of children and young people in which assessment, clinical intervention and case management
to accepted clients is provided.
3. Support improvements in the community needs-driven distribution of services, including the development of new service models in
response to Department of Health (DoH) and National mental health reform directions.
4. Responsible for the implementation of clinical guidelines and standards related to their professional services within the area of child
and youth.
5. Maintain high standards in report writing, accurate and up to date clinical records and service provision statistics through use of
established information systems.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant qualifications in Psychology or Social Work with full registration to practice as a Psychologist with the Australian Health
Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility for practicing membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
(AASW).
- Demonstrated, recent clinical experience in the mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation methods appropriate to
children and adolescents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends in the delivery of mental health services to the target population.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and other professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds and to
prepare written reports of a high standard.
5. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, engaging in ongoing professional development and
contribution to professional peer consultation.
Desirable
1. Post graduate qualifications beyond entry to practice in speciality.
2. Capacity and registration (where required) to supervise allied health students (Master of Clinical Psychology and social work).
