The Itinerant Support Teacher Assistant Principal – Vision (APISTV) role supports schools to ensure full curriculum access for students with confirmed vision disabilities across preschools, primary schools, high schools, schools for specific purposes and support classes, while providing strong leadership across diverse contexts. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role requires the ability to lead and mentor staff, conduct assessments, participate in review meetings, and provide expert advice to guide evidence-based adjustments. It demands the coordination of complex systems and caseloads, delivery of targeted professional learning, and liaising with the Team Around a School and external providers. Central to this role is modelling high expectations, fostering a collaborative and accountable team culture, and building staff capability to ensure cohesive, consistent practices that improve outcomes for students with vision impairment. The Vision Team is based at Warwick Farm Public School in the Liverpool network. Warwick Farm Public School has a current enrolment of 212 students across K-6. The student population comprises of 5.9% Aboriginal students and 70% of our students have a language other than English. The position requires travel to schools across networks.
Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach students with vision impairment.
1. Demonstrated approval and willingness to teach students with vision impairment across all educational settings from Preschool to Year 12, including a readiness to travel in an itinerant capacity. Shows the capacity to build strong relationships with students, families and schools, and to provide leadership in coordinating and sustaining a high-performing Vision Team at the base school.
- Proven capacity to foster a collaborative team culture, working closely with and mentoring colleagues to build shared expertise and collective responsibility. Demonstrated ability to innovate and coordinate complex systems, processes and procedures, while effectively leading and maintaining a cohesive and high-performing vision support team at Warwick Farm Public School base.
3. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of professionals. Utilises highly developed organisational and management skills to lead collaborative planning, support team operations at the base school, and coordinate effective case management across the network.
4. Demonstrated capacity to promote an effective and inclusive learning environment, grounded in strong knowledge of the Disability Standards for Education and an understanding of the needs of students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Shows leadership in modelling inclusive practices and strengthening school and team capability to meet the needs of students with vision impairment.
General Selection CriteriaSuccessful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Ability and willingness to travel between worksites. The successful applicant will be required to travel by personal transport to schools across networks to support students with visual impairments and will require a current driver's licence and reliable vehicle.
