The Operational Performance Manager is tasked with elevating our operations and maintenance activities through the design and implementation of a standardised operating model across the road maintenance business.
This role will drive the integration of clear process discipline and real-time monitoring into our operations. These systems and process will support the establishment of a centralised control centre model and an industry-leading approach to safety, efficiency, and performance.
This role is suited to senior transformation leaders with backgrounds in manufacturing, utilities, or infrastructure — individuals who can combine strategic process thinking with hands-on operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Operating Model & Process Excellence

  • Design, roll out, and embed a standardised operating model across the transport business.
  • Lead the integration of the Plan–Do–Check–Act cycle into business-as-usual (BAU) operations.
  • Translate Lean \ Six Sigma style methodologies into road operations and maintenance practices, ensuring waste reduction, efficiency, and improved outcomes.
  • Establish and govern real-time performance monitoring and centralised control centres.

Leadership & Change Management

  • Act as the champion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Build organisational capability in Lean \ Six Sigma style methodologies through mentoring and coaching.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through cultural and operational change.
  • Ensure alignment of business processes to customer, regulatory, and contract requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with technology teams to embed live monitoring tools, dashboards, and predictive analytics into operations.
  • Lead problem-solving workshops and root cause analysis to address systemic challenges.
  • Develop and track KPIs that measure efficiency, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Governance & Reporting

  • Develop governance frameworks, ensuring process compliance across regions.
  • Provide regular reporting on operating model performance to the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for further process optimisation.

Key Outcomes

  • Industry-leading operating model consistently applied across contracts.
  • Control centres established and actively monitoring live field performance.
  • Measurable improvement in efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Cost savings through reduced waste and improved resource planning.
  • Staff at all levels engaged and skilled in Lean \ Six Sigma style methodologies.

About You:

  • Proven track record in operational transformation within infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing, or asset-heavy industries.
  • Strong background in Lean methodologies and continuous improvement.
  • Experience establishing standard operating models at scale
  • Experience with real-time monitoring systems and performance control frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed cultural change and deliver measurable results.
  • Strong commercial and contractual acumen in service delivery contexts.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and government contracts.
  • Experience in road maintenance, transport infrastructure, or utilities (desirable)
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification (desirable)
  • Understanding of ISO 55001 – Asset Management Systems (desirable)
  • Project management qualifications (e.g., Prince II, PMP) (desirable)
