About us
North Academy is a small independent special assistance school located in West Wallsend, supporting young people in years 9–12.
We work with youth who may have disengaged from school, experience school refusal, live with mental health needs, face social or emotional challenges, or simply find that mainstream education isn't the right fit.
We offer flexible attendance, small classes, shorter days, and specialised programs. We tailor learning to each student's needs. Relationships and wellbeing come first in every decision and every classroom.
Who are we looking for?
- We're looking for a passionate teacher to join our exceptional team.
- Primary or secondary trained. Special education highly considered, but not a deal breaker for us.
- NESA registration to teach in NSW. Conditional, provisional, and proficient accreditations welcomed.
- An individual who understands trauma, behaviour and mental health needs.
- Willingness to teach multiple subjects and outside of your Key Learning Area (KLA).
A snapshot of the role expectations:
- Live and breathe the North Education Model elements and values every day.
- Teach and deliver lessons to students in a supportive, engaging, and inclusive environment.
- Prioritise, build, and maintain healthy connections and relationships with all young people.
- Design and develop engaging and innovative curriculum, programs, assessments, and resources for allocated KLAs.
- Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies when required to manage behaviour.
- Collaborate with our Head Teacher, Wellbeing Coordinator, Learning Support Specialist and Student Support Workers to create a safe and supportive environment.
- Actively participate in weekly excursions, team meetings and school events.
What is on offer?
- Full time employment.
- Ability to salary package and increase your take home pay through Maxxia - due to our not-for-profit status.
