*This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.*
About the Role
The Metropolitan South Region is seeking qualified Social Workers with a passion for supporting students, families, and school communities. As a key member of a multi-disciplinary wellbeing team, you'll work directly with children to build their social and emotional skills while also providing responsive support to those experiencing urgent needs.
This role is part of the Department of Education's Wellbeing Workforce, delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions to students and families with mild to moderate mental health concerns. You'll also play a vital role in connecting families to external services and empowering them to support their child's emotional development.
Your Opportunity
Social Workers employed through the Student Wellbeing Package will have the following roles and responsibilities:
- Using professional knowledge of psychological interventions and treatments to deliver appropriate and tailored therapeutic interventions to support students' mild to moderate concerns, including:
- Mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression
- Personal relationships
- Stress
- Trauma and crisis
- Providing support and ensuring safety plans for the school context are implemented for students who are self-harming and/or at risk of suicide.
- Applying an understanding of the mental health continuum to identify when students require additional mental health support outside of the school context.
- Using knowledge of the mental health system to provide students who need additional support for their mental health concerns with warm referrals to external agencies.
- Supporting students following a critical incident or emergency, ensuring their wellbeing is monitored and supported.
- With student permission, working with other wellbeing and school staff to ensure strategies developed for the student can be implemented in the classroom and the wider school community.
- Undertaking individual and group counselling and therapeutic interventions with students, parents, and families to assist them with mild to moderate mental health needs.

Who We're Looking For
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Strong prioritisation skills and a flexible, student-centred approach
- Commitment to inclusive, community-driven wellbeing practices
