About the business unit
This role is within the Office of the Clerk business unit which is one of three business units in the Department of the Legislative Assembly.
The unit performs two primary functions:
- Enabling the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly to discharge their duties and responsibilities as a permanent Officer of the House, commissioned by the Governor of New South Wales, and other statutory obligations.
- Delivering on governance and corporate accountabilities to the Department, including planning, performance reporting, intra and inter departmental groups and projects, fiscal management, policy development, staff training and development, records management, and inter-parliamentary relations including administration of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NSW Branch).
About the position
Managers in the Department of the Legislative Assembly manage projects, committee inquiries, and administrative processes and functions. They apply high level knowledge and skills to achieve the strategic, operational and business needs of the Legislative Assembly. They work closely with Members of Parliament to provide impartial policy and procedural advice and maintain high standards of integrity.
As the Executive Manager, you will provide high-level executive support to the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly to assist them in meeting their responsibilities and exercising their functions as both an Officer of the House and as Head of a Parliamentary Department. This includes meticulous delivery of executive secretarial assistance and accurate operational advice to the Clerk to ensure they are properly briefed and supported in balancing priorities.
Successful candidates will be highly organised with exceptional problem-solving and relationship management skills and able to demonstrate sound judgement. They will be able to balance competing priorities and the demands of an office with a high volume of correspondence, often of a sensitive nature. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, given the diverse range of internal and external customers and stakeholders.
