Youth Activities Officer

Full time

The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.

The Role:

The role will be responsible for facilitating the social, personal and physical development of children and young people within the community through community engagement and sustainable ongoing activities at Gununa Youth Hub.

General Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Coordination of activities for a group of children for short periods of time throughout the day.
  • Assist the Coordinator with the recording of children in attendance
  • Provide a healthy, safe, and welcoming environment for children and families.
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of the children.
  • Take a genuine interest in the children, their activities and participate in these activities as much as possible.
  • Give each child individual attention and comfort as required.
  • Assist in developing and implementing programs and activities.
  • Implement daily routines for children.
  • Perform general duties associated with the operation of the service including but not limited to all aspects of food preparation, service, and cleaning/maintenance of all areas of the premises (internal and external).
  • Work as a member of a collaborative team, sharing housekeeping duties.
  • Assist in organising a pleasant, welcoming, and safe environment for the children.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with internal and external contacts as appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Proven ability to create meaningful positive change for young people with complex needs.
  • Previous experience training and working with youthto achieve goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Working with Children's check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current Driver's License.
