About the Role
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of Victoria's most respected emergency service organisations, working to protect lives and property across the state. Our Fire Investigation Program plays a critical role in understanding how and why fires start, enabling the development of effective fire prevention, education, firefighter safety and suppression strategies.
We are now seeking a Senior Analyst Fire Investigation to join our Operational Response and Coordination team. This role is ideal for an analytical thinker who wants their work to create real impact for Victorian communities and frontline responders.
About the Role
As the Senior Analyst - Fire Investigation, you will work closely with the Fire Investigation Manager to deliver CFA's Fire Investigation Program. You will analyse fire incident data, track emerging trends, support the capability of CFA's Fire Investigator network and contribute to planning that strengthens prevention, safety and operational readiness across the organisation. Key Responsibilities include the following:
- Analyse fire investigation data and trends, producing clear reports and insights that inform prevention, education, firefighter safety, and suppression strategies.
- Extract, cleanse and interpret fire incident data, and provide expert advice on fire origins, trends, and risk mitigation (including input into recalls, standards, and regulations).
- Gather and assess supporting information such as event chronologies, weather data, and lightning reports for Fire Investigators.
- Work with District Coordinators and Fire Investigators to ensure reports are completed on time and meet CFA policy requirements.
- Manage the release of reports for legal proceedings and public requests, ensuring compliance with FOI, subpoenas, privacy, and CFA procedures.
- Ensure all reporting outputs are accurate, timely, and aligned with legislation, SOPs, and business rules.
- Support capability development by assisting with training plans, analysing training activities and performance, and monitoring investigator skill progression and readiness.
- Prepare program reports, briefings, and materials for the Fire Investigation network.
- Maintain key databases, intranet pages, and SharePoint sites, including content updates and access management.
About You
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following
- Tertiary qualification, accreditation, and/or demonstrated practical knowledge and comprehensive understanding of fire investigation methodology.
- Well-developed research and analytical skills, with the ability to assess and interpret reports and other technical data sources to support fire investigation activities.
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis and reporting, including the ability to extract, cleanse, manipulate and interpret large datasets to identify trends, patterns and insights that inform strategic decision-making.
- Proven ability to undertake critical analysis of incident and investigation data and translate findings into actionable recommendations that support prevention, education, firefighter safety and suppression strategies.
- High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate and policy-compliant reporting and information sharing.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefings, documentation and digital content for diverse audiences, and to manage intranet or SharePoint sites to support information sharing and program delivery.
- Excellent organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and deliver accurate and timely reporting in accordance with business rules, standards and organisational objectives.
