Supermarket Store Manager

The Store Manager reports to the Operations Manager. This role is classified as Level 8 in the GRA.
The Store Manager is responsible for the whole store team.
In cases where the Store Manager and the Operations Manager cannot agree on a problem or a disciplinary procedure, the Head Of Operations will make the decision.
OBJECTIVESAchieve a substantial and increasing market share in the store by promoting sales and maintaining good consistent store standards and customer relations.
Develop a team spirit in the stores that leads to an atmosphere of professionalism, pride, loyalty, and above all, ownership.
Develop, lead, and motivate a capable team of store staff of the highest quality and standard.
Minimise costs by tightly controlling inventory losses, quality of contractor work, minimising staff turnover and maximising productivity.
Maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and safety.
Use initiative to control, manage and continually improve the quality of work in the areas of responsibility.
Be a constructive team member in the store.
Manage the store resources effectively and monitor staff training, development, and performance.
Control annual leave and absenteeism of employees and be aware of WH&S requirements for responsible departments.
Encourage, train, motivate and develop the store staff, particularly managers, so they reach their full potential. Ensure the same happens on all hierarchy levels within the stores.
Ensure all Routine Cards are followed by the Store Team.
Recommend when store staff are capable of promotion to manager level to the Operations Manager.
Recommend to the Operations Manager when Store Management should be terminated or promoted.
Responsible for the interview, selection, training, performance management and, where necessary, termination of all store assistants.
Exercise the right to suspend an employee for serious misconduct. Recommend to the Operations Manager when a manager should face disciplinary action.
Communicate to the Operations Manager all incidents, damages, operational problems, or suggestions.
Hold master key and be available for emergency callouts.
Estimate sales one month in advance and schedule employee hours to meet productivity and payroll targets. Adjust the plan if required.
Ensure all stock is of good quality and within date by rotating according to the rotation schedule.
Minimise stock losses caused by store damages, over ordering or internal/external theft.
Training and maintaining merchandising standards across entire store. Each department to be presented full, ticketed, and clean.
Ensure that correct stocktake/stock adjustment process is occurring in all departments, accurate receival of goods and accurate updating of invoices to give an accurate inventory.
Meet new staff on their first day and brief them on the Code of Conduct & Policy Booklet. Oversee new staff training programs.
Conduct Home Visit for any employee who is absent due to serious illness or Long Term.
Expense authorisation for Store Team and staff according to Bernardi Group guidelines.
Ensure information essential for Management Team to carry out their responsibilities is communicated to them.
Designate key holders & communicate to Support Office.
Ensure that all equipment is in working order and is properly maintained.
Record all store repairs and equipment requests on StorIQ for approval.
Contact customers immediately when there are serious customer complaints about Bernardi products or services.
Ensure all controls, policies, and procedures (e.g., WHS, Product Recall, Employee Handbook, Food Safety, Due Diligence, Handling of Payments etc) are followed.
Ensure all current legislative and Bernardi internal requirements and responsibilities are always adhered to by store staff and maintain adequate records. Inform and train store management in all company procedures to comply with legal requirements. Ensure all roles/positions are correctly certified/licensed.
Oversee the purchase of store supplies.
Maintain a clean, hygienic and pest-free store.
Oversee all work carried out by contractors and suppliers before signing work sheets to objectively control, and sign subsequent invoices.
Ensure the company vehicle is maintained in accordance with specific standards & fuel card is used only for business kilometres.
Perform any special tasks as specified by the Operations Manager in the nature of the role.
