About the role

  • Lead the delivery of key equity and inclusion strategies, driving initiatives like the Disability Inclusion Action Plan and Gender Equity Action Plan.
  • Shape governance, reporting and stakeholder engagement frameworks to embed inclusion across the Department.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to align policy, data insights and strategic outcomes that promote an inclusive workplace culture.

The Lead, Equity and Inclusion Policy and Strategy will work with our partners across the department and NSW Public Sector to make sure Education's strategies and policies are aligned to legislative requirements and government priorities. This role leads the cyclical development and reporting of Education and NSW Government priorities and commitments including, but not limited to, the Disability Inclusion Action Plan, Gender Equity Action Plan, LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Plan and Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Strategy.

About you -

  • Experienced policy leader with a proven ability to develop and govern inclusion and equity strategies that align with legislative requirements and government priorities.
  • Strategic thinker skilled in balancing evidence, lived experience and organisational context to deliver clear, practical, and sustainable policy outcomes.
  • Strong communicator and influencer who can navigate complex stakeholder environments with diplomacy, empathy and professionalism.
  • Collaborative partner who builds trusted relationships across diverse teams to embed inclusion principles in policy and practice.
  • Resilient and pragmatic leader who leads with integrity, manages competing priorities effectively, and drives meaningful outcomes in challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
