About the Role

The Principal Right to Access Officer makes and reviews decisions about access to information in accordance with the GIPA Act and leads the team to deliver quality customer service and meet departmental and statutory compliance, processing and reporting requirements. This role also supports the manager in coordinating the department's responses to NSW Legislative Council orders for the production of documents under its Standing Order 52 to facilitate rigorous compliance with requirements.

Essential requirements of the role 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying information access legislation including the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and making decisions in response to requests for information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

About You

  • You are a strong people person who enjoys working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • You understand compliance requirements for Standing Order 52, Orders for Papers, and have the ability to coordinate and organise document returns to The Cabinet Office including providing strategic advice on these returns to the department.  
  • You will also have excellent knowledge and experience in making decisions under the GIPA Act and freedom of information legislation and coordination of other information requests. 
  • You will model the highest standards of integrity and be passionate about education and making a contribution to the future of NSW.
