Systems Engineer

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

• Provide expert technical services including planning, compliance, resource management, and documentation for complex defence equipment and systems
• Apply industry best practices aligned with Australian, international standards, and Defence regulations to ensure quality and compliance
• Demonstrate initiative and leadership by independently managing technical and supervisory objectives to achieve successful project outcomes
• Collaborate and influence across stakeholders, offering specialist advice to guide project direction and decision-making
• Execute complex technical tasks such as hazard analysis, contract documentation, testing, planning, and reporting using appropriate tools and methods

What You'll Bring

• Tertiary-qualified engineer with hands-on experience in test, evaluation, and V&V activities, including planning and reporting for user acceptance and operational testing in commercial environments
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering or related field, with extensive Systems Engineering experience in ICT projects; Master's preferred but not essential
• Proven track record in system testing, validation, quality assurance, and ability to hold or have held technical delegation
• Strong communication skills to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with a collaborative, team-focused approach
• Detail-oriented professional experienced in producing comprehensive technical documentation and delivering integrated ICT solutions alongside cross-functional teams

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum
Negative Vetting 2
or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
