The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Specialist to join the AKKF team on a part time (4 days per week) basis.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Mental Health Specialist role provides subject matter advice to the organisation on evidence-based mental health practices and oversees the research and reporting work that demonstrates AKKF's impact.

Location: AKKF is a fully remote organisation and we are open to candidates from all states

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the rollout and implementation of accreditation programs across AKKF, ensuring compliance with standards, child protection, child safety, and privacy obligations
  • Design and deliver evidence-based mental health education programs for team members, volunteers, and stakeholders, covering topics such as trauma-informed care, ADHD, strengths-based language, and psychological safety
  • Govern the integrity and clinical accuracy of all Kookaburra Kids program content, promoting mental health literacy and help-seeking behaviours across all initiatives
  • Provide clinical supervision, debriefing sessions, and individual support to team members and volunteers, particularly following program incidents or challenges
  • Support external promotion and advocacy efforts by attending media forums, creating mental health content for multiple platforms, and engaging with key stakeholders alongside the CEO
  • Monitor mental health sector trends and continuously improve AKKF's clinical services, policies, and procedures to ensure they remain evidence-based and competitive
  • Collaborate with the fundraising team as the mental health subject matter expert, contributing to grant applications and funding submissions
  • Lead research activities including grant applications, ethical approvals, study design, data collection, and evaluation of program outcomes to inform organisational strategy

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Postgraduate study in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Psychology with current AHPRA registration or mental health endorsement if a social worker.
  • Demonstrated post graduate experience in mental health and recent experience in child and adolescent mental health, preferably in the community or health promotion setting.
  • Advanced skills in holistic youth mental health assessment, treatment, and care planning of child and adolescent mental health.
  • Significant Clinical Education experience including program and/or content development and clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience translating research into practice.
  • In-depth knowledge of Child Protection, Child Safety and Privacy standards and legislation across all Australian jurisdictions.
  • Maintain a current satisfactory check for working with young people, as per the relevant State/Territory legislation.
  • Maintain a current and satisfactory National Police Check.
