Department for Infrastructure and Transport

Job reference: 705129

Location: ADELAIDE

Job status: Ongoing

Eligibility: Open to Everyone

At the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, we are connecting South Australia to keep our State moving. We are responsible for delivering a multi-billion-dollar pipeline of transformative transport and social infrastructure projects, operating and maintaining thousands of kilometres of roads and managing our city's public transport network.

Our work encompasses every part of our State; from our cities to our regions, connecting and strengthening community. We value diversity and inclusion and foster an environment of collaboration, flexibility, and support for our people.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Pavement Surfacing Engineer to help shape the future of South Australia's roads. In this role, you'll develop asphalt specifications, check construction quality, and make sure projects meet the right standards.

You'll work closely with suppliers and contractors to improve practices and drive innovation. You'll also provide technical advice on pavement design and condition assessments, keep clear records, and help manage risks. This is your chance to make a real impact on the safety and quality of our transport network.

About you

You're an experienced engineer who really knows asphalt mix registration and compliance. You're confident developing and reviewing asphalt specs, using research and industry feedback to get the best results. You work well with suppliers and contractors, bringing people together to drive innovation and consistency.

You're skilled in flexible pavement design, using mechanistic-empirical methods and tools like CIRCLY. Whether working solo or as part of a team, you manage your time well, make informed decisions under pressure, and deliver on deadlines. You communicate clearly at all levels, resolve conflicts calmly, and build strong, positive relationships.
