Primary objective

Reporting to the Regional Manager Barkly, the Territory Business Advisor will work with internal and external stakeholders to grow private

investment, support business growth and create jobs in the Territory consistent with the Department's strategic vision and the Business

and Workforce Delivery Business Plan. Based in Tennant Creek, the Territory Business Advisor will provide support to businesses in the

Barkly Region. The Territory Business Advisor will formulate referral pathways to support clients, provide advice where appropriate,

advocate on the client's behalf and provide strategic advice to Government about issues and trends in the regional business environment.

Context statement

The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations (DTBAR) is responsible for shaping a competitive environment that activates

industry and business, attracts investment and drives growth to sustain a vibrant Territory economy and lifestyle. The Business and

Workforce Delivery (BWD) branch is part of Business and Regions South. BWD support businesses and not-for-profit enterprises to grow

and sustain their enterprises. The TBA will work within a multi-faceted team environment, providing a service to clients that considers

business, workforce and economic development needs and opportunities as part of a coordinated, holistic and solution-focused approach.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Liaise with businesses and not-for-profit organisations throughout the region to understand their needs and develop appropriate

referral pathways to business and workforce programs and provide advisory services when appropriate.

2. On behalf of clients, collaborate and coordinate with representatives and groups from DTBAR, other Government departments, the

Commonwealth Government and others to identify and access appropriate business support services.

3. Communicate effectively with clients, collect detailed information, assist with the completion of client applications and assess eligibility

for business support programs and grant opportunities.

  1. Prepare reports and presentations, assist with the organisation of events, and respond to departmental requirements, as needed, which

may include drafting of ministerial communication and/or documentation.

5. Provide feedback, advice and reporting to the Chief Executive and Minister for Business through the Regional Manager, Top End.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience in high-level customer/client service delivery, with excellent, adaptable communication skills.

  1. Demonstrated ability to gather and assess business and industry information, along with articulation of findings of assessments to

make recommendations.

  1. Ability to project manage, liaise and collaborate with many stakeholders, and work within a complex and changing environment.
  2. Demonstrated business acumen, with the capability to engage with business owners and managers, diagnose needs, and provide

credible, value-added advice and guidance across at least one business function.

5. Understanding of current social, political and economic issues facing business and industry sectors and demonstrated experience in

developing and implementing solutions in collaboration and cooperation with internal and external stakeholders.

6. Ability to work as a positive team member, embracing diversity, committed to service and with evidence of positive and proactive

communication skills (including written communication), accountable and impartial in all interactions.

  1. Proficient in the use of computer software and an understanding of current business technology.

  2. A current Northern Territory 'C' Class drivers licence or equivalent with the ability to travel to remote locations.

Desirable

1. Degree in a relevant field of business or demonstrated work experience.

2. Knowledge of the NT economy and factors affecting economic performance and business and industry competitiveness.
