As part of our ongoing digital transformation, we are seeking a Data Governance and Architecture Lead to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the College's data strategy.

This is a rare opportunity to combine strategic influence with hands-on technical delivery, while leading MLC into a new era of trusted, well-governed, and high-impact data.

The Role:

  • Lead MLC's data maturity journey, including the design and rollout of our Microsoft Fabric Data Lake and data migration initiatives.
  • Build and embed frameworks, standards, and governance models to ensure data is accurate, secure, and strategically leveraged.
  • Design and deliver modern data solutions, pipelines, and integrations that meet business and user needs.
  • Provide expert technical ownership of MLC's data architecture, while optimising databases for performance, scalability, and compliance.
  • Partner with College leaders and external consultants to champion a culture of data-driven decision making.
  • Mentor and uplift data capability across the College, embedding continuous improvement practices.

About you

You are a highly skilled data practitioner who enjoys both strategy and delivery. You bring technical depth alongside the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. You'll thrive in a role where you can set frameworks, roll up your sleeves, and make a lasting impact.

Key skills and experience include:

  • Strong experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related roles, with hands-on expertise in enterprise data platforms.
  • Proven delivery of data lakes, warehouses, pipelines, and governance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data modelling, and modern programming languages such as Python, R, or Spark.
  • Practical understanding of metadata management, compliance, and data quality frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex data concepts in plain language.
  • Experience with Microsoft M365, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric or Purview is highly desirable.
