Chisholm is seeking an experienced Apprenticeship Support Officer to join our Student Support and Engagement team. Full time, fixed term contract until 27 February 2026.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Apprenticeship Support Program, delivered by the Victorian Government's Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, aims to deliver high-quality assistance to Apprentices, to support positive outcomes throughout the apprenticeship journey.

The role is hosted at Chisholm and the Apprenticeship Support Officer (ASO) plays a pivotal role in providing timely, relevant, and comprehensive guidance on a variety of issues, including wages, training contracts, workplace safety, bullying/discrimination, and general wellbeing. The role provides direct support and facilitates access to specialized support services where required through multiple channels, include phone, SMS, appointments, class talks, workshops, and the creation of tailored resources.

The Apprenticeship Support Officer is an integral member of the Student Support and Engagement team, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to offer a holistic support experience. The role demands a non-judgmental, sensitive, and supportive approach when working with apprentices from diverse backgrounds.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage a caseload of apprentices for a specified district, providing ongoing support for apprentices identified as requiring mentoring and support to improve student retention.
  • Act as a key liaison and advisor to apprentices during the early stages of their apprenticeship by promoting the program and providing information and guidance.
  • Refer apprentices for appropriate support and assistance to other service providers as required to support the client to resolve personal issues.
  • Manage and record the individual progress of apprentices while pursuing agreed strategies to enhance retention and apprenticeship completion.
  • Compile and maintain reports on ASO engagement for proactive interventions and case management.
  • Gather, record and maintain accurate and timely data entry using designated IT systems whilst generating accurate reports meeting auditing and DJSIR compliance requirements.
  • Represent the ASO program and Chisholm in a professional manner at all times and nurture the reputation of the program.
  • Research, record and promote apprenticeship success stories and raise confidence and recognition of employment outcomes and life skill development.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, establish their requirements and provide trusted solutions to partners.

ABOUT YOU

You are a highly motivated individual with well-developed skills in:

  • Sound knowledge of, and experience working within, the apprenticeship field.

    Sound knowledge and familiarity of the Victorian Vocational Education and Training sector including the role of RTOs and Australian Apprenticeship Support Networks.
  • Demonstrated skills in counselling or youth development, including those from disadvantaged groups.
  • The ability to respond to emergency situations that occur during out of hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Well-developed customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and to use own initiative.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to self-manage caseloads.
  • Demonstrated clear and concise written communication skills to produce a variety of complex reports on sensitive issues.

Qualifications required for the role:

A relevant tertiary qualification and related industry experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training.
