We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Work Health and Safety Officer to join our team. If you have a passion for safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
What We're Looking For:
- Relevant qualifications in Work Health and Safety.
- Proven experience in a similar WHS role, preferably within local government or a similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage staff at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and lead investigations, audits and training.
About the Role
As the Work Health and Safety Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Driving a proactive and positive safety culture across the organisation.
- Supporting staff in understanding and complying with WHS legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Leading the continuous improvement of Council's Safety Management Plan.
- Supporting Council to meet its legislative obligations and commitments under its Enforceable Undertaking with the Office of Industrial Relations (Workplace Health and Safety Queensland).
- Conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations, including following up corrective actions.
- Ensuring contractors, subcontractors and volunteers comply with Council's WHS requirements and legislative obligations.
- Delivering training and awareness programs to promote safe work practices.
- Analysing WHS data and trends and preparing reports for senior management.
- Providing expert advice and guidance on Work Health and Safety matters.
