The College is committed to providing opportunities for Aboriginal students and in line with this sits an obligation to ensure that appropriate support infrastructure is in place for the duration of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students' schooling - and through the transition years immediately following graduation.
We are looking for a passionate Aboriginal Youth Mentor to join our Pastoral Team to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This is a part-time (0.4 FTE) role.
Responsibilities related to this position include, but are not limited to:
- mentoring of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students, across mind, heart, body, and spirit.
- supporting individual Aboriginal student's wellbeing, for them to achieve their personal best and to have the skills to problem solve and employ helpful strategies to overcome any challenge or obstacle they may be confronted with. This position will work alongside the Cultural Program Coordinator and be part of the Secondary Pastoral Care Team.
- supporting the College's main objective of the teaching and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through assisting Secondary Teachers in the delivery of planned education programs and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment focusing on opportunities and support for students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- supporting the 'Family' model utilised at the College supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The successful applicant will be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent and will have:
- Current National Police Clearance and Working with Children check
- First Aid Certificate (or CPR)
- Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
- Education Assistant Certificate qualification from a recognised education institution or be studying towards another relevant qualification.
The following essential criteria must be addressed in your cover letter:
- Understanding of cultural safety and key concerns for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Ability and willingness to uphold and role model the College values of Respect, Empathy, Integrity, Knowledge, Growth and Synergy
- Ability to maintain and develop professional and positive relations with all stakeholders including parents
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of a team
