The Opportunity
Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer in our Hot Strip Mill team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
As the Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer, you'll deliver asset utilisation and maintenance management outcomes across the plant, undertaking root cause analysis and problem-solving strategies on a variety of challenging manufacturing scenarios. Your role will include coaching plant personnel on maintenance techniques and planning strategies for process improvement, working as part of a multidisciplinary team across the department.
Whether you're local to the Illawarra, looking to avoid the Sydney traffic, or considering a move interstate, BlueScope offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant coastal city with a well-established culture that drives some of the highest employee retention rates in the market, a workplace where your professional journey is both rewarding and exciting.
What Will You Do?
Managing and developing the maintenance strategies of the overall mechanical plant, you'll drive continuous improvement and reliability of mechanical assets within the department. You will also:
- investigate, fault find, and problem solve long term/systemic equipment issues to eliminate potential causes to determine the root cause and develop subsequent corrective actions
- lead significant repairs & maintenance projects, down days, and short shutdowns; including multi trade discipline works for equipment improvement projects.
- provide engineering oversight for complex issues, upgrades, and investigations to inform investment decisions regarding asset condition and technical risks.
- collaborate across a multi-discipline team of Section Reliability Engineers by leading business processes to guide and prioritise improvement work.
- provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to support technical growth within the maintenance team.
- develop detailed scope of works and Inspection Test Procedures and commissioning plans for plant.
- plan, coordinate and execute minor projects as required
More About You
As an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, you quickly adapt and have an eagerness to learn. You'll bring:
- a mechanical trade - a diploma or mechanical/mechatronic engineering degree will be highly regarded or a willingness to complete a diploma.
- a demonstrated ability to effectively lead a work team and build relationships with key stakeholders.
- experience in problem solving/root cause analysis and reliability improvement
- extensive experience in planning, organisation and management principles of maintenance preferably in a heavy plant environment
- an understanding and knowledge of Mechanical and/or Structural, construction and statutory safety requirements.
- a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others.
