About the business

We are a Local Cairns family-owned business, specialising in mining and civil mobile machinery repairs and maintenance on and off site since 2008. We pride ourselves on high quality work output in a safe and timely manner.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to join our team as our newest apprentice diesel fitter based in our Cairns workshop. 

Current available position:

  • Full-time position
  • 4-year apprenticeship
  • Ongoing support and development

About the role

Our apprenticeships run over 4 years, combining formal TAFE study with workshop and field work, supported by our experienced fitters to earn a nationally recognised Certificate III in Engineering qualification.

Our apprentices are exposed to:

  • Workshop based heavy machinery service and repairs
  • Local field service work on a wide range of civil, mining and quarry machinery
  • Remote field service work on a wide range of civil, mining and quarry machinery
  • Component overhauls
  • Machine overhauls
  • Electrical and air conditioning service and repairs
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Marine engine service and repairs
  • Install and service fire suppression systems, including FSI, Qtec and Chubb

The successful applicant can expect:

  • Work hours in Cairns between 7.00am and 5.00pm
  • Random drug and alcohol testing
  • Overtime when required
  • To go to remote locations when required
  • Block training at TAFE, as required by their apprentice training plan

Requirements for position:

  • Completed year 11 or 12, with minimum sound results in English, Maths and Science
  • Current manual P or Open driver's licence and reliable transport
  • Qualities we are looking for:

  • Desire to work and learn on the job
  • Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work with a wide range of people
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Ability to work away from home, working flexible hours and rosters
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability
  • Sound written, verbal, mathematics, English and computer skills
  • Neat and tidy appearance
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Adherence to drug and alcohol testing requiring negative test results
  • A commitment to attending all classes as part of the apprentice training plan and finishing the 4-year trade
