The roleAre you passionate about connecting communities to Country through gardening, education and cultural storytelling? As a Community Greening Officer, you'll lead the way in creating vibrant, culturally informed green spaces across social housing and priority areas, community organisations, schools and community lands. You'll co-design and deliver hands-on environmental education programs that embed Aboriginal cultural knowledge and support healing, connection and truth-telling.

This role is all about building relationships—whether it's with Elders, local schools, or community garden participants—and turning those connections into thriving gardens and learning spaces. You'll navigate complex social and cultural landscapes, foster partnerships, and help communities grow together, literally and figuratively.

This role involves regular travel to client sites, with much of the work focused in the Central Coast and Mid North Coast regions of NSW. It's a great fit for someone based in or near these communities who enjoys working outdoors and connecting directly with local people and places.

What you will bring to the role

  • A background in landscape design and horticultural services, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability.
  • Experience delivering engaging educational programs in outdoor environments, especially for social housing and Aboriginal communities and diverse cultural groups.
  • Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and train staff, volunteers, community groups, and schoolchildren in horticultural and educational projects.
  • A self-directed and independent approach to work, with the confidence to take initiative and manage tasks autonomously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to represent the organisation professionally and foster meaningful connections with community partners.
  • A passion for creating positive change through education, sustainability, and community engagement.
  • Cultural responsiveness and ability to embed Aboriginal knowledge and lived experience into program design
  • Ability to manage basic budgets, report on program outcomes and use technology effectively

What is an essential requirement:

  • This is an Identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
  • Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
  • is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
  • Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) qualification, or ability to enrol on employment.
  • Current Australian driver licence.
