About The Role
The Unit Manager is responsible for effective and efficient functioning of the Units and provides leadership and guidance to ensure the provision of custody, security, and management of young Offenders within their area of responsibility. The Unit Manager is also responsible for supervising Unit Staff including ongoing monitoring and management of staff performance, delegation of duties, staff development and induction of new staff.

The Unit Manager supervises Youth Custodial Officers in the effective provision of custody, security, and management of young offenders within their areas of responsibility and is responsible to the Superintendent for the security, safety, care, and development of young people in their designated area of responsibility.

Unit Managers assist Senior Officers in directing, coordinating, and appraising young offenders for programs and activities within the Detention Centre. They also coordinate and complete supervision classification reviews, monitor the Detainee Management Program and ensure effective and efficient functioning of Units.

Eligibility
Permanent positions
– To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

WWC positions
– In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.

This pool will be open for a period of twelve (12) months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, fixed term, full time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.
