About Salute For Service:
Salute For Service is an Australian not-for-profit dedicated to supporting current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force. We provide holistic support across career development, mental health, and social reintegration.
Position Overview:
The Veteran Engagement Officer (VEO) plays a vital role in engaging with veterans, offering peer support, and connecting them with the wide array of services provided by Salute For Service. A key part of this role includes organising, planning, and managing social engagement activities aimed at fostering community, building connections, and supporting veterans' wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
Veteran Engagement:
Act as the first point of contact for veterans and their families seeking assistance.
Build rapport and provide guidance on available support services.
Service Facilitation:
Assist veterans in accessing Salute For Service's support network, including mental health, career services, and social programs.
Coordinate service delivery to ensure a seamless experience for veterans.
Advocacy & Referrals:
Advocate for veterans' needs within the community and connect them with external services where appropriate.
Provide referrals to relevant healthcare providers, educational institutions, and employment services.
Outreach & Community Engagement:
Conduct outreach activities to encourage veterans to engage with Salute For Service's programs.
Organise, plan, and manage social activities and events that foster community engagement and support veterans in building meaningful connections.
Promote and ensure the participation of veterans in activities that enhance their social, mental, and physical well-being.
Peer Support:
Offer peer-to-peer support, sharing your experiences and providing practical advice for veterans navigating life post-service.
Program Support:
Assist in the delivery of workshops, events, and activities aimed at improving the wellbeing and social integration of veterans.
Monitoring & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of engagement and outcomes, and report progress to the Program Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
Military Experience:
Previous service in the Australian Defence Force or experience as a partner of an ADF member is highly regarded. Understanding the unique challenges faced by both veterans and their families is essential for this role.
Experience in Veteran Support: Experience working in veteran support or advocacy roles is desirable.
Event Management Skills: Demonstrated experience in planning, organising, and managing social activities or events is highly desirable.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with veterans.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong capacity to identify challenges and provide appropriate solutions or referrals.
Cultural Awareness: A solid understanding of the challenges faced by veterans and their families.
Personal Attributes:
Empathetic and supportive, with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of veterans.
Resilient and adaptable, able to work in emotionally demanding environments.
Collaborative and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
