Communication & Publications Officer

The Communications & Publications Officer is responsible for the provision of a range of effective communication and publications activities required and relevant to the needs of the organisation (BGHS). The Communications & Publications Officer will facilitate, develop, implement, and review a range of communication strategies to achieve organisational objectives and improve community engagement. This includes through written publications (Quarterly Newsletter, Staff Newsletters Annual Report, and monthly E-Bulletins etc), educational and promotional materials, website and social media content, and media related material. This position will also provide administrative support to Management as required. The occupant is also responsible for being the first point of contact for all communications and media requests to ensure a consistent alignment to BGHS communications strategy.
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in a communications and publications role including the ability to design, develop and publish a range of print and digital materials.
- Knowledge and understanding of communications methods and strategies.
- Excellent written communication skills including the ability to draft and edit content for a range of different audiences and mediums.
- Ability to lead and coordinate a small team to achieve shared outcomes.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- High level of initiative with the ability to be proactive and work autonomously.
- Ability to place, organise and present information in a comprehensive and interesting format for a variety of audiences and mediums.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
- Computer literacy skills including experience with Adobe Photoshop and Indesign and Microsoft Office applications.
- Competent in the use of camera equipment and the ability to edit photos.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Current C Class Drivers Licence.
- Valid Working with Children Check (WA).
- National Criminal History Check Certificate (Police Clearance - valid within 3 months).

Desirable:
Experience working in the not-for-profit/community sector.
