Program Officer – Case Work

Part time 30 hours per week Monday to Thursday

Make a difference in the lives of newly arrived refugees and migrants.

MCCI is an award-winning not-for-profit organisation supporting culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Program Officer – Case Work to join our dedicated team and provide high-quality settlement support to people from migrant and refugee-like backgrounds.

About the Role

In this rewarding position, you will deliver comprehensive casework, advocacy, and referral support to individuals and families settling in the region. You will conduct needs assessments, develop case plans, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to support clients achieve their goals and successfully equip and empower them to resettle into their new community.

Key responsibilities include:


• Providing casework and early intervention support in line with best practice and MCCI standards.


• Maintaining accurate case notes and program data (CDS).


• Building partnerships with service providers and community organisations to strengthen referral pathways.


• Supporting community outreach, cultural training, and emergency response activities.


• Promoting MCCI programs and contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.

About You

You are an experienced caseworker and have sound understanding of the refugee and settlement experience. You demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and cultural competence, and are confident working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and complex needs.

You will bring:


• Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, community services or a related field (or equivalent experience).


• Minimum two years' experience in casework, ideally within the community or settlement sector.


• Fluency in other community languages – Arabic, Karen, Karenni, Swahili and Kinyamulenge


• Understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based practice and lived experience.


• Strong time management and problem-solving skills.


• Current Driver's Licence, Police Check, and Working with Children Check.
