Position: Group Cafe Chef - Join The Grumpy Baker Team in Sydney

About Us: The Grumpy Baker seeks a talented Group Chef to contribute to our growing portfolio of retail bakery/cafés in Sydney. As a long-established, family-run business, you'll work closely with the owner, becoming an integral part of our journey for the long run.

The Role: As a Group Chef, you'll oversee, mentor, and manage kitchens across all locations. This hands-on role involves training, inspiring, implementing quality standards, and interviewing and employing back-of-house staff.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Cafe/restaurant experience - We are not looking for a hotel executive chef.
  • Previous chef experience with Middle Eastern cuisine would be ideal but not essential. Someone with a flair and passion for food to create fresh, wholesome, seasonal and simple dishes.
  • Great communication skills
  • Team player mentality
  • Menu creation, stock control, and knowledge of food safety and hygiene
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organisational skills, multitasking ability, and excellent communication for building rapport with peers and ensuring outstanding customer service

This role is ideal for a creative person looking to advance their current position by taking on more responsibility and menu creativity but working independently with flexibility and variety - no day is the same as we have over 13 outlets through Sydney and surrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating new menus and seasonal items
  • Managing kitchen ordering
  • Preparing and cooking food, including baking
  • Explaining and enforcing hygiene regulations
  • Controlling food and labor costs
  • Ability to be hands-on, train, and mentor individual chefs in our various stores

Requirements:

  • Flexible working hours (some weekend work may be required, particularly in the beginning)
  • Willingness to travel
