About the Role
Lead with purpose in a role that safeguards children and school communities within Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS). As Supervisor: Child Protection, you'll guide a team of practitioners in managing sensitive matters and investigations, while providing expert advice to school leaders and staff to ensure compliance with child protection obligations.
This is a highly collaborative leadership position, working across directorates to coordinate wraparound support and interventions that make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and their families.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- overseeing a high volume of child protection triage and casework, ensuring compliance with legislation and external agency requirements
- leading investigations into reportable conduct and acting as the escalation point for complex and high-risk matters
- strengthening school leaders' and staff in their confidence and competency in their interactions with the team and child protection across prevention, intervention and postvention
- collaborating with internal teams, external investigators, and school leaders to resolve matters professionally
- monitoring and reporting on casework data, trends, and risks to inform continuous improvement
- providing supervision and responsive support to team members, including trauma-informed guidance
- initiating applications to the Children's and Local Courts for Compulsory Schooling Orders in response to severe attendance issues
- contributing to legal processes, historical claims, and urgent matters as required
- preparing reports for insurance, audit, and leadership, sharing insights and recommendations
- analysing case trends and contributing to system-wide improvements in safeguarding practices
- being contactable and available out of work hours to respond to urgent matters
- any other duties as directed from time to time.
About You
To be successful in this position, you must possess:
- a relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, police/protective services, community welfare, law, industrial relations, education or related discipline, with a minimum of ten years' post-qualification experience
- extensive experience in conducting comprehensive workplace investigations
- an in-depth knowledge of the NSW child protection legislative framework and organisational responsibilities
- a strong understanding of child protection principles and best practice approaches
- a demonstrated resilience and ability to effectively lead a child safety team
- experience in leading and supporting a professional team in high risk and emergency responses to incidents
- a current driver's license and access to a car
- a willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools.
Desirable:
- previous experience in the Education and/or not-for-profit sectors
- knowledge of Catholic Systemic Schools/Systems.
