We are looking for a News Camera Operator to join Melbourne's Overnight News roster. This is fast, reactive news work. You are the first on scene, shooting breaking stories for all major networks.

This work is not general videography. It requires someone who can see a story fast, work without handholding, and think on their feet. If you have a news background or want to move deeper into news long term, this is ideal.

What the role involves


• Shooting breaking news across Melbourne overnight


• Working from the ABC Southbank building


• Collecting the supplied ABC vehicle and full kit each shift


• Using supplied camera, scanner, phone, laptop and gear


• Monitoring scanners to respond to active jobs


• Uploading vision to networks immediately from scene


• Staying in contact with Chiefs of Staff and morning producers


• Filming events when requested by networks
