About the Role

We're looking for outgoing, confident people to help deliver Registry weddings with warmth, professionalism, and a genuine love for working with couples on their big day.

As a casual celebrant, you'll be conducting relationship and marriage ceremonies, registering marriages, and making sure each couple feels supported and celebrated. Great public speaking skills and a knack for customer service is key. Don't worry if you are not a celebrant yet; we provide full training to get you there.

Whether you are already in the celebrant-world or curious about stepping into it, this is a role that offers something pretty special. You'll be part of a team that values connection, care, and creating memorable moments.

Interested? We'd love to hear from you.

About the Registry:

The NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is an agency within the NSW Department of Customer Service. The Registry was formed in 1856 to register life events in NSW accurately and securely for all time. This includes the registration of births, deaths and marriages and official changes of name and sex.

About the team:

This role supports the Registry's Marriage Services team in delivering marriage services outside of regular hours and on the weekends (typically Saturdays). Celebrant key accountabilities include marrying people and accurately registering these life events. This position requires on-site training and attendance, plus regularly working over weekends.

The responsibilities for this role:

  • Maintain high standards of service, professional conduct and practice for marriage products and services.

  • Provide marriage celebrant services and solemnise marriages to ensure compliance with the requirements of legislation including privacy and anti-discrimination.

  • Provide marriage ceremony clients and guests with information and guidance to enable a seamless and enjoyable experience.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of family relationship services and inform clients on relevant information.

  • Apply a high attention to detail to accurately register marriages.

This role would suit candidates who are confident in their ability to deliver a memorable ceremony in front of a group, with high attention to detail. Previous celebrant experience would be highly desirable, not a requirement. Training will be provided for successful candidates.

A celebrant can only hold one registration type any given time in the civil, religious or state officer category. If you are currently an accredited civil celebrant, you will need to surrender your 'A' number whilst employed by the Registry. For more information, please contact

What we need from you:

Please submit your application online to be considered during the shortlisting process.
