About the role

  • Site located at the Family Wellbeing Service in Laidley
  • Full-time 38hrs/week
  • Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:06pm
  • 12-months fixed term contract

As a Family Wellbeing Support Worker, you will work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to build strong, trusting relationships and provide culturally safe, holistic support. Your role will focus on supporting families to strengthen their connections to culture, improve social and emotional wellbeing, and address challenges such as parenting, housing, domestic violence, mental health, and child safety concerns.

You will be instrumental in promoting healing, resilience, and self-determination by providing tailored case management, advocacy, and coordinated referrals. As a support worker, you will also be responsible for ensuring that all work complies with established child safety guidelines, always upholding the safety and welfare of children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, children, young people, and Elders that promote engagement and positive outcomes for families.
  • Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed support to families facing various challenges, including child safety, domestic violence, mental health, and housing.
  • Provide practical in-home support tailored to individual family needs.
  • Provide transport for families to appointments and assist clients with health related. and non-health appointments, including initial and follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Supporting clients with non-health-specific needs, such as accessing Centrelink services, employment opportunities, and other groups and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with child safety practices and uphold mandatory reporting requirements within the framework of Kambu Health's child safety policies.
  • Strong communication skills to foster collaborative efforts with local stakeholders.
  • Provide advocacy and referrals to support families in accessing services that promote holistic wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with the Family Wellbeing Service Family Practitioner to conduct Comprehensive Family Assessments using designated child and family assessment tools from the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety, as well as shared practice framework resources.

About the Successful Applicant

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in child safety and knowledge of child protection, including mandatory reporting requirements and how to manage risks associated with vulnerable families.
  • A deep understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, particularly in rural and regional communities.
  • Proven ability to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support to families, especially those experiencing vulnerability.
  • Skills in case management, including assessment, planning, goal setting, and facilitating referrals to appropriate services.
  • The ability to engage with and build trusting relationships with children, parents, carers, and Elders.
  • Knowledge of social service systems, particularly those relevant to domestic and family violence, mental health, and child protection.
  • Strong communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (or working towards).

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check – Blue Card
  • Current Open Driver's Licence
