Senior Functional Business Analyst - Regulatory & Compliance (Contract)

Location: Sydney Start Date: October 2025 (Immediate Start Available) Sector: Banking

The Opportunity

Join a critical data platform initiative within a major Australian bank focused on Regulatory Compliance and uplifting existing risk and issue closure processes. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Functional Business Analyst to drive the documentation and delivery of business and technical requirements necessary to meet strict regulatory standards and business outcomes.

This role requires a proven ability to interpret business pain points and translate them into clear, functional requirements while navigating a complex data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business and technical SMEs to gather, interpret, and document clear business, data, functional, and non-functional requirements.
  • Analyse current operational and reporting solutions for key data flows, working with teams to develop and document target state processes.
  • Support project and stakeholder communities to achieve essential governance and compliance deliverables.
  • Work with technical delivery teams to support the implementation of new technical workflow capabilities.
  • Identify project risks, prepare business impact and risk assessments, and develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure the incorporation of project, data analysis, and business analysis best practices into project delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5 years minimum experience as a Business Analyst, preferably within a large, complex financial services organisation.
  • Strong delivery background with experience in Data-related projects, including data governance and data quality initiatives.
  • Proven proficiency in current/target state process documentation and requirements definition.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methodology and the ability to break down concepts into iterative tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills—a necessity for building trust, confidence, and consensus with senior stakeholders and technical teams.

Highly Desirable Experience

  • Experience working on major Regulatory Reporting / APRA initiatives (e.g., EFS, Basel III, APS220, IFRS9, or similar).
  • Deep understanding of enterprise data ecosystems and data warehouses.
  • Experience working effectively across remote and co-located teams.
  • Exposure to Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
