Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Whizdom Full time $115,000 - $140,000 per year

About Our Client

Our client is a Melbourne-based leader in cybersecurity and IT services, with a strong heritage in managed services and a forward-thinking approach to modern cyber solutions. They support a stable base of existing managed IT clients, while also partnering with channel organisations to deliver cutting-edge cyber SaaS tools. The environment is dynamic, collaborative, and offers direct access to leadership, allowing team members to influence standards and delivery approaches.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, senior technical position focused on both infrastructure and cybersecurity projects. We are seeking two candidates for this client.

The role is split approximately as follows:

  • 60%
    : L3 support/escalations for existing managed clients
  • 30%
: Infrastructure project delivery (e.g., M365/Azure migrations, network/security uplift, remediation)
  • 10%
: Cyber solution engineering (technical POCs/trials, deployments, enablement for both MSP and channel clients)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, networking, firewalls, backup/DR, security tooling)
  • Leading and delivering infrastructure projects end-to-end
  • Designing and deploying cyber solutions (EDR, email security, application control, SWG/ZTNA, SAT, etc.)
  • Mentoring L1–L2 engineers (informally)
  • Maintaining high standards in documentation and operational improvements

This is a purely technical role with no sales targets or quotas.

The position is hybrid with flexibility for WFH and occasional client site visits.

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5–10 years' experience as a Systems/Senior Systems/L3 Engineer
  • Strong background in MSP or multi-customer IT services environments
  • Proven track record delivering infrastructure projects end-to-end
  • Solid technical skills across Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Windows Server, Group Policy, Active Directory, networking (firewalls, VPN, routing/switching), and backup/DR solutions
  • Familiarity with MSP tooling (RMM, PSA/ticketing systems)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, proactive mindset, and initiative to resolve underlying issues
  • Clear, concise communication skills and the ability to mentor junior engineers
  • A genuine interest in cybersecurity

Desirable extras include exposure to EDR, email security, application control, SWG/ZTNA, phishing/SAT tools, experience with POCs/trials, and relevant certifications (Microsoft, networking, security, cloud).

Red flags:
Pure internal corporate IT background, large enterprise-only experience, sales/pre-sales focus, reluctance for customer-facing work or site visits, poor communication, or a desire for full-time remote work.

What's on offer?

  • Salary:
$125,000–$145,000 + superannuation (commensurate with experience)
  • Work mix:
Balanced between infrastructure projects, L3 support, and cyber solution engineering
  • Exposure:
Hands-on with modern cyber SaaS tooling and a clear path into deeper security or vendor-style engineering
  • Environment:
Small, high-impact team with direct access to leadership and the ability to shape standards
  • Flexibility:
    Hybrid working
  • No sales targets or quotas
