Cryo-Lab Engineer
Job Description
Ready to shape the future of quantum computing?
At Diraq, we're scaling millions of qubits on a single chip using silicon CMOS—unlocking practical, commercial quantum applications. This is a company with a genuine pathway to commercial quantum computing, not just theoretical promise. We're building what could become the most exciting technology the world has ever seen—and we're doing it with the speed, scale, and ambition of a future trillion-dollar company, in a space where billion-dollar valuations are already the norm.
If you're driven by solving complex problems, building world-first technologies, and leading high-impact collaborations, this is your opportunity to make a global mark.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to quantum research in a meaningful, hands-on way. If you're someone who enjoys solving problems, supporting others, and making complex environments run smoothly — we'd love to hear from you.
We're looking for a CryoLab Support Engineer to help keep our research labs running smoothly and safely. This is a hands-on, operations-focused role that sits at the intersection of hardware design, manufacturing, and lab logistics. You won't be conducting experiments yourself, but you'll be a key enabler of the work that happens in our cryogenic labs.
Job Requirements
We're looking for someone who is:
- Thoughtful, organised and has great attention to detail
- Comfortable working in technical environments and committed to safety
- Able to communicate clearly and engagingly with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Curious and willing to learn new tools and techniques
- Collaborative and approachable, with a service mindset
Experience needed:
- 1–3 years experience working with cryogenics, including cryo-liquids like liquid helium or nitrogen
- Experience with procurement, inventory control, and vendor coordination
- 2–3 years experience with CAD, PCB design, precision soldering, and electronics assembly
- Familiarity with electronics measurement equipment, or a willingness to learn
- Experience designing and assembling simple mechanical systems
Job Responsibilities
Enable cutting-edge quantum research through precision, care, and collaboration.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys enabling scientific progress through operational excellence. You'll be the person who keeps things running behind the scenes — with a mix of technical precision and people-focused communication.
You'll work closely with physicists, engineers, and operations staff to support the day-to-day functioning of our labs, including:
- Coordinating lab operations across multiple sites, including those with cryogenic fridges
- Procuring consumables and specialised components
- Maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring timely restocking
- Supporting safety protocols, compliance procedures, and risk assessments
- Assembling and testing custom components, including coaxial cables
- Assisting with maintenance and service of critical lab infrastructure
- Preparing documentation and reports for audits and internal reviews
Job Benefits
- Gorgeous central Sydney CBD office location with state-of-the-art lab facilities based at the UNSW Sydney campus
- Paid time off to volunteer for a cause you're passionate about
- Opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals and world experts in the quantum computing field and a distinguished senior leadership team and Board
- A dynamic, supportive, and innovative work environment with opportunities for personal and professional growth
- Exposure and education from leading experts in the ground-breaking technologies that are shaping the future of quantum computing
We've got this one covered No need for recruitment help. Unsolicited CVs or agency contact won't be considered.
