We have an exciting opportunity for the next Director – Campaigning and Communications to join us at the QNMU and make a difference to the lives of nurses and midwives

This role is based at our West End Office with Hybrid work options available.

About the QNMU

The Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU) is the industrial and professional organisation for nurses and midwives working in public and private health and aged care in Queensland.  The QNMU seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political, and democratic interests of over 79,000 members.  We have over 200 employees including organisers, professionals and administrative personnel, and manage a multi-million dollar operating budget.

Why is the role exciting?

Reporting to the QNMU Assistant Secretary - Nursing, you will provide professional guidance, development and support to members of the Campaigning and Communications team and develop group strategic and operational plans to ensure the objectives of the organisation are well supported by the team.

The Director, Campaigning and Communications is a member of the Senior Leadership Team of QNMU and contributes to the strategic directions and priorities of the organisation, as well as assisting to develop plans and programs, including transformational activism across all aspects of QNMU's operations.

In this role, we are looking for a high performing professional to lead and coordinate the work of a large multi-disciplinary team.

This is an initial 6 Month Fixed Term Contract opportunity with the possibility of extension or permanency.

We are looking for some specific skills and experience to fulfill this position:

  • Extensive experience in managing and coordinating major community or political campaigns
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning and execution, the development of systems to monitor organisational performance and the ability to work well with senior colleagues
  • Experience in change management, organisational development and workforce planning
  • Demonstrated commitment to QNMU's values, purpose and trade unionism in general
  • You must have exceptional leadership skills to oversee experienced professional staff and ensure their operational efforts align to our strategy and transformational activism agenda
  • Understanding of professional issues and management practices that affect nurses and midwives
  • High level interpersonal skills and a proven ability to lead, inspire and manage staff in a collegiate and professional work environment
  • High level project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Extensive experience working as a nurse or midwife and/or nurse or midwife manager (or in a related clinical capacity), with a strong understanding of workplace culture, professional issues and management practices that affect nurses and midwives, is highly desirable
  • Qualifications in management, industrial relations, communications, or related field is highly desirable
